So what kid doesn’t go through the “I love Pirates” stage. Even my newly teen daughter is in Looooove with Jack Sparrow. Well, since the boys want pirates, that is what I am planning for a fun little mini unit next week.
We had taken a bit of break from schooling so we could enjoy some summer family time. It is time to get back to it. I figure this would be a fun way to ease everyone back into a schedule (which I am just starting on now) and figuring out all our lesson plans.
I figure I will share some resources I have come across so far to help me start this unit.
I would first like to share this very well put together FREE Pirate mini unit done by Madonna over at 2 Teaching Mommies. She has put together a great start for us with all this she includes in her download.
This next wonderful lapbook comes from Dynamic 2 Moms. This is for the older kids, which is nice to get them involved with a theme that seems to be geared more towards the little ones. The printables she has available are Amazing!!
In connection with Dynamic 2 Moms Lapbook is the information available on the Expedition Whydah, which is an exhibition from National Geographic.
Real Pirates Educator’s Guide (PDF File): The Educator’s Guide for Real Pirates: The Untold Story of theWhydah from Slave Ship to Pirate Ship contains information for teachers planning a trip to the exhibition. The guide includes an overview of the exhibition; activities to use before, during, and after your visit; and a correlation to Colorado Academic Standards.
Pirates! from National Geographic. Glimpse the golden age of piracy through the eyes of those who shared the sea with the saltiest dogs.
Silver Bank from National Geographic. Take a virtual tour of an ill-fated Spanish treasure galleon that sank on the shoals of Silver Bank near the Dominican Republic in 1641.
